Murphy’s Story

Throughout most of the 20 century, the company logged and merchandised timber. Over time, it became an open‐market veneer supplier and then began manufacturing softwood plywood, engineered wood and hardwood plywood.

Today, Murphy has evolved into a veneer specialist. It was a transformation that grew from paying attention to the changing landscape and looking for opportunities to build on Murphy’s core strength: veneer.

John Murphy (third generation) and John Murphy Jr (fourth generation) lead the company and look ahead with the same attitude.

“Talking with our customers energizes me. It’s interesting to hear about their market needs, learn about their challenges and think about how we can help create solutions that will make their businesses better,” John says.

Murphy employs over 850 highly trained employees, including technicians and professionals, in its six mills and corporate headquarters in Eugene, OR. All products are manufactured in accordance with quality and environmental certifications from the Decorative Hardwoods Association (DHA – formerly HPVA), Engineered Wood Association (APA), Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), and California Air Resources Board (CARB).
